COMPLETED
Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum Summerfest Reelsmithing Workshop
The Eclectic Angler is conducting a special Reelsmithing Workshop on Friday August 3, 2012 at 10am to kick-off the Center's Summerfest weekend.
An opportunity to make your own fly reel with The Eclectic Angler, Michael Hackney, in the Paul Dahlie Education Center. No previous metalworking experience is required to take the workshop -- just a desire to make a fly reel and willingness to use a little elbow grease and get a little dirty. All necessary tools are provided. Participants will build one of Michael’s newest, and attractive reels (see photo above). The 3-inch diameter reel will feature a click drag system, hold 90 feet of 4-weight fly line, and handle 25 yards of backing. Participants receive a “Ported Aluminum Reel” kit and will walk out with a functioning reel. All tools, supplies and instruction are provided. Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity. The fee for the reel-making workshop is $125. The program is limited to 25 participants. Pre-registration is required.

Always wanted to understand how the fly reel originated and how craftmen of early times built those wonderful tools. Michael took our class through a very interesting history lesson followed by great instruction how to complete our fly reels. I am every excited about the reel I created but even more pleased with the information that is provided as an adjunct to building the reel.
