All New V6 Design!
PLEASE READ
Many have asked if they could make a donation to support my work so here are a couple of options. Normally, I email the STL files within a few days after you request them (this depends on my work and travel schedule primarily). However, donators will be able to download the files immediately from the email confirmation thats sent automatically - and I'm providing two options:
1) a $5 donation: the STL files will be emailed immediately without delay
2) a $10 donation: includes 1 and also includes STEP files for all parts
The normal STL files I provide for free are lower resolution files in order to make the package small enough to email. They are perfectly fine to make good prints but if you would like to create very high resolution meshes (STL) to print, you can do so with the STEP files and a CAD application. The STEP files also allow you to modify or customize the design and include a special bonus - a insert for the back plate that you can modify with your own design, text or logo to customize your printed reel.
Please read and agree to the following CONDITIONS:
I like to print the reel in PLA. I have also printed them in ABS. Nylon and PETG work also. The design and clearances were optimized for PLA and ABS, other filaments may be different.
These files are standard STL files that can be opened in your slicer application. I like to use KISSlicer but most any slicer will work.
The reel weighs in at 45 gms / 1.6 ounces. It is 3" in diameter and designed to hold up to a 5 wt line with backing.

What an amazing reel that I was able to print myself. PLA was the perfect material.

The files were well worth a $10 donation! The inclusion of unported, ported, and customizable design is very cool. Also includes left and right hand retrieve versions. The reel is of good size to actually be used with 3-4-5 weight lines.

I love this reel it prints great, the only issue I had was getting a zip tie for the click that wouldn't break over time. I solved this problem by using some Teflon instead.

The work that EC put into this real is beyond words. This project will take your 3d printer and make it better because your extrusion multiplier and calibrations need to be properly set. This print will make sure they are right or the parts won't fit .
Once together the V6 Reel is really cool and if you built it right is smooth and just works. I love mine. I have built two v5 and one V6 . The great thing is none of you fishing buddies will have one and you can go as crazy with the colors as you want. The only thing I would recommend is stating If you can give one to you friends as a gift or not in the rules files If they don't have a printer. Thanks For making the step files available .

We opted to donate and received the stl and step files. This allowed us to modify the parts and add our company logo, etc. From there we created our own stl files and printed them on our own printers. The design and engineering is really spot on. It was easy to print and looks great. Have fun experimenting with different filament colors and infill patterns. Our favorite so far is using colorFabb band CorkFill. The cork color blends great with the cork handle on the flyrod, and just looks retro. This is a great parent/child or school project. Highly recommended.

Thanks guys, and thanks for the donation. I saw your modified backplate design - looks great.
In addition to CF CorkFill, I like the BambooFill too. It looks awesome on a vintage bamboo fly rod!
Cheers,
