Tenkara Fly Set
Tenkara is a simple form of fly fishing originating in Japan. It offers a unique and simple alternative to today's high-tech equipment. The tenkara rod is from 9' to 14' (more or less) long with a fixed length line. There is no reel. The flies are also simple, but very effective. Many tenkara entusiasts (including us) fish with a single fly pattern. This pattern is the one used by tenkara expert Dr. Ishigaki from Japan and tied as he demonstrated at the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum in May of 2009.
Each set consists of four colors of tenkara flies with three flies in each of three sizes (12, 14 and 16 hooks) per color, for a total of 36 flies:
All flies are tied on barbless Tiemco 100 hooks with Whitting hackle. The set comes packaged in a 12 compartment box (made in USA). A tenkara rod, line, tippet and this set of flies are all you need to get started!
