Premium Horse Hair
Early in 2009 we re-discovered a mid-nineteenth century description for making horse hair lines using a furling technique that produces a knotless, tapered line of any length. We experimented with the technique, added an innovation to facilitate the process, and wrote an article for Power Fibers Magazine to show others how to make these lines. You can download a copy of the article here: Horse Hair Fly Line, Power Fibers, Volume 36.
This premium horse hair is 30″ to 32″ long (76cm to 81cm) from Siberian white stallions, and each bundle contains approximately 200 hairs. This is more than enough to complete a 30′ tapered line as described in the article.
This hair is also great for furling with our Walton's Engine to create "snoods" that are knotted together to make fishing lines. These lines are particularly popular with tenkara and western loop rod enthusiasts.
