Otter Butter is a hand-crafted fly line and leader dressing made by us right here in Groton, MA. Otter Butter applies easily with the included chamois applicator and a single application should last through a long day on the water. Originally developed for oiled silk fly lines, Otter Butter can be used on silk lines, furled leaders and tenkara lines and even modern synthetic fly lines. It does not contain any harmful solvents or ingredients and does not contain silicones. Otter Butter has a mild and pleasant beeswax fragrance. Otter Butter leaves a thin, hard coating on your line that glides through the guides. You will hear and feel the difference on silk and modern synthetic lines. It also does not pick up grit like other line dressings.
Otter Butter comes in a screw top tin can and is a full 1.5 oz. Also available in a convenient pocket size for dressing your furled leaders, tenkara lines or stream-side touch-ups.
Try Otter Butter, we think you'll agree, "It floats better!"
Instructions
Never apply Otter Butter to a damp or wet silk line, trapped moisture invites mold. Apply to clean fly line with chamois pad at least 30 minutes in advance of fishing - this gives the butter time to set up properly. Make sure the butter gets down into the weave and remove excess with the chamois. A thin coat is more effective and actually lasts longer. An application should last the entire day.
Tips
To apply Otter Butter to a line previously dressed with Mucilin or another product:

I've tried several line dressings including red Mucilin, which was previously the best I've tried. This is much better. Slicker, less sticky, and an all-around more durable coating.

First used otter butter a couple of years ago.
Was surprised by how much better it was than the traditional product.
Will continue to purchase and use in the future.

I like Otter butter and put it on my fly line, Leaders, and even my flys. I like that it may need to be applied more often (it comes off cleanly) than other products yet provides better flotation than many other products. It is definitely waxy, and when applying to flies it stays for a longer period of time. I can recommend it for both trout and salmon gear.

Otterbutter is the best leader dressing I've used. I live in Montana and one of my favorite things is chasing rising fish on stillwaters here, what's commonly called "Gulper Fishing"in this region. Having a leader float high makes it much easier to pick up and recast to cruising fish, and also helps keep the leader out of the weeds that always seem present for this fishing. Otterbutter keeps the leader up higher and lasts longer than anything else I've used. I usually use it on furled leaders, but have also had it work great on normal mono leaders. It's also a great quick fix for a floating line with a waterlogged tip. It's become one of those little extras that I'm not confident fishing a hatch without. Great stuff.

The firmness of Otter Butter is perfect, and the old school, screw lock tin is perfect. Unlike the competition's, it doesn't melt in my vest, run out and saturate the contents and be wasted. I bought a second tin just in case!

This stuff is great for my silk lines and furled leaders, they float longer and higher than when I was using Mucillin.

Fully endorse the use of this product on silk lines, much

This butter works well and the applicator chammy does a great job of distributing the butter. Only con is the butter is dense and takes some elbow grease to get on the applicator chammy . But it's worth the work. Works great with ferrel leaders
