We hand-make several styles of Furling Engines – also known as "Walton's Engines", “twisting machines” or “gut twisters”.
The Walton’s Engine has a round (1/4" diameter) handle and 3 furling hooks. It is stamped with The Eclectic Angler logo, Michael Hackney's maker’s mark, and a serial number. The engine comes in a custom leather pouch. Each Engine is individually hand-made for its new owner so please email for an availability estimate. Orders require a 50% down payment.
The "Gut Twister" or "Twisting Machine" has the same 3 hook mechanism as the Walton's Engine but has a beefy flat brass handle for holding or mounting to a furling board.
Handle material may vary from the photos. I use "fancy" woods for most Walton's Engines (Amboynia Burl, Olive Wood, Lignum Vitae, Ebony, etc). You can also select Delrin in black or white for no additional charge. Bone, antler and ivory is sometimes available for an additional cost.
